CATIA V5 sub-assembly duplicated

We have a customer complaint that our V5 CSDK-based importer is creating duplicate copies of all the sub-assemblies in their V5 model.

I think I see what is doing this from this note:

http://doc.spatial.com/index.php/InterOp:Connect/CATIA_V5/Assembly_Representation#Assembly_Structure

However it fails to explian why this is done. It seems to undermine one of the basic conventions in assembly modelling and makes no sense whatsoever.

Why is this done?

Are there plans to remove this silly restriction?

Re: CATIA V5 sub-assembly duplicated

Hello Mark,

The fundamental reason for which the nodes are duplicated is to recognize & capture the instance specific properties of the multiple instances of the subassemblies. Instance properties are like hidden or suppressed.

By the way we are updating the page you have mentioned & will let you know.

Meanwhile, you may please use the fact in your application that whenever in the document section filepath attribute is same then it indicates presence of another instance of the same sub-assembly.

Please let me know if you need any further clarification,

With best regards,

Amol
