A customer recently asked me if HOOPS supports Ctia CGR, and because I believe this information can be beneficial to the community, I'd like to share it. Below is a response from Phil Spreier, the person in charge of the Spatial/TechSoft 3D business relationship. Phil says:
"CGR is the CATIA Graphical Representation (you can think of it as the facetted data, but I think that it contains names and other data as well). It shows up in two places; CATIA V5 CATPart files all internally contain a CGR representation (this is generally true, but there are some corner cases where you can set CATIA to not save a CGR representation). Additionally, CATIA can save a .CGR file which is just the graphics representation of a part, without the BRep.
Our InterOp reader supports both types of CGR file. If you translate the Visualization representation of a CATPart, we will read the CGR data and output an HSF file. Same is true if you translate a CGR file and ask for the Visualization representation. In both cases we output HSF which HOOPS can read and display. Note that we only translate the facetted representation of the part.
HOOPS by itself does not handle CGR, but IOP + HOOPS can be used to translate CGR to HSF and display."
Please feel free to post any questions you have.
