Hello,
I encounter problem that MS Excel 2007 fails to activate HOOPS ATL when opening xlsx file with hsf file embedded.
I got reply from Techsoft3D, and I would like to thank TS3D for the agreement for sharing information at this forum.

I've been looking over this for awhile, and I think it might be an Excel 2007 specific bug. If I perform the similar test with Word 2007, it seems to work fine.
It seems as if the ActiveX control is not activated. When attaching Excel to a debugger with the control loaded, the control does not get any events. It acts as if the control was not enabled due to a security reason, but I've experimented with turning off the security, placing it in a trusted folder, and other registry settings.
If I insert an embedded Word 2007 document inside of excel, and insert the Hoops control inside of the embedded Word document (this can be done via a copy/paste when in design mode), then saving and loading the Excel file works. I think this is because Word allows the Hoops control to load, but Excel does not. The problem with this workaround is that the Hoops control does not seem to show unless you double-click the embedded Word document.
I think the only reasonable workaround would be to save the Excel document in the older version (Excel 97-2003 *.xls). This seems to work after saving and loading the Excel file containing a Hoops control.

Bashi
